Woodend: A Club Layout

Woodend is a fictional OO gauge 4mm layout utilising Peco code 75 fineScale track throughout. It depicts a countryside landscape with a track plan that snakes through a valley.

The layout was envisaged as a club layout which would allow all club members the opportunity to see their models operate through a landscape that the originals spent most of their time, compared with the usual station/industrial scene that many layouts follow.

Like many railway clubs, our members’ interests are varied and on a running night, models of ‘The Big Four’ can be seen running alongside BR and American modern image. It is able to run DC and DCC at the same time.
However, for exhibitions, the layout runs as WoodEnd Sawmill DCC, is situated somewhere in the north west of England set in the 1940’s.

It sits alongside a double track mainline of the London Midland and Scottish Railway Company. The sawmill expanded a number of times during the late 1800/early 1900’s and uses both reciprocating and rotating saws to produce its products.
